I will save with The Three Hundred

7 Then the Lord said to Gideon, “By the three hundred men who lapped I will save you, and deliver the Midianites into your hand. Let all the other people go, every man to his place.”

Judges 7:7 (NKJV)

Yesterday, we saw that fear is never the way of God, but He only uses and works through those who hold unto Him by faith. Therefore, we must reject every suggestion of fear and hold unto faith in Christ Jesus. So, after Gideon had sent the fearful packing. God still moved further with other credentials to reduce the population to three hundred. How did he do that?

The remaining ten thousand were brought to the water to drink. Some people got down on their knees to drink with hands to mouth, while some lapped to drink from water to tongue as a dog laps. Amongst these two categories, God chose those who lapped. 

From my thinking, I thought the people who drank from their hands were really cautious and sensitive that they were going to war. They looked wise. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise. He went for those who looked foolish and lapped like a dog to drink water. It really doesn’t make logical sense. But we are talking about God who wants to take the glory here. He wasn’t looking for people who were military fit, but people who were willing to go by faith, even when they lacked military training. No one with military training would have drank water that way.

This is the same way God has chosen us, and sometimes we wonder what made us special for His choosing. The bottom line is we are not special. But God wants to use the ordinary person that we are to do extraordinary things. You might look at yourself as not smart enough, not intelligent enough, not vocal enough, and many other excuses you have. But the only question God is asking you today is, ”Are you willing to go?” If your answer is yes, leave the extraordinary things to God to handle. You focus on the things He is instructing you to do and watch God use you to perform wonders. This is actually the testimony of my life. From a timid, low self-esteem, unintelligent and a lot of inferiority complex to someone who teaches the Word of God gracefully. It could only have been God. Indeed, God chooses the foolish things of the world to confound the wise. So, ask yourself today, am I in the ‘three hundred’ who accepted God’s mission even when it looks naturally impossible?

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, thank you for choosing an unqualified and unfit person like me to glorify yourself. I choose to accept your call and follow you continually. Lord, help my faith never to fail, that I may live to please the One who has called me and who does supernatural things through a natural vessel like me. I am among the three hundred you have chosen to use.
