Lessons from Rahab’s Faith Part 3

But Joshua spared Rahab the prostitute, with her family and all who belonged to her, because she hid the men Joshua had sent as spies to Jericho—and she lives among the Israelites to this day.

Rahab’s faith extended beyond her own salvation; it encompassed the salvation of her entire family. When she negotiated her safety with the Israelite spies, she did not forget her loved ones. She interceded on their behalf, asking that they too be spared from the coming destruction. This act of intercession demonstrates a crucial aspect of faith: it is not self-centered but reaches out to others. Rahab’s plea for her family’s safety reflects a heart that understands God’s mercy and desires it for those she loves.

In addition to interceding for her family, Rahab had to persuade them to trust in the God of Israel. This was not a simple task, considering the cultural and religious context they were in. Rahab had to convince her family to abandon their trust in the walls of Jericho and the gods of their ancestors and instead believe in the God who had promised to deliver Israel. This act of persuading others about the truth and power of God is akin to evangelism. Rahab’s efforts to bring her family under the protection of God’s promise show her dedication and the practical outworking of her faith.

Our faith, like Rahab’s, should not be confined to personal salvation alone. It should inspire us to intercede for others, seeking God’s mercy and salvation for them as well. We are called to pray earnestly for our family, friends, and even those who might not yet know God, asking that they too experience His grace and protection. Intercession is a powerful expression of love and faith, trusting that God will hear and respond to our heartfelt pleas.

Furthermore, we must be willing to share our faith with others, encouraging them to trust in God. Evangelism is a natural extension of genuine faith. It involves sharing the testimonies of what God has done in our lives and the promises He offers to all who believe. Like Rahab, we should be eager to bring others into the fold of God’s mercy, helping them understand and embrace the salvation available through Him. PRAYER

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the example of Rahab’s faith and her concern for her family’s salvation. Teach me to have a heart of intercession, praying earnestly for the salvation of my loved ones and those who do not yet know You. Help me to share my faith with others boldly and persuasively, just as Rahab did. May my life be a testament to Your grace, drawing others to seek and trust in You. Strengthen my faith to reach beyond myself and extend Your love to those around me.
