Let’s Go Over to the Other Side

“That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, ‘Let us go over to the other side.’” – Mark 4:35 (NIV)

As the sun sets on this final day of the year, we find ourselves standing on the brink of the unknown—a new year. The evening symbolizes transition, a time when one chapter closes, and another begins. In Mark 4:35, Jesus invited His disciples to cross over to the other side at evening. This invitation mirrors God’s call for us to step into the new year with trust and courage, even when the journey ahead seems uncertain.

However, as the disciples embarked on their journey, a fierce storm arose, threatening to overwhelm them. This reminds us that the path God calls us to is not always smooth. Just because He speaks does not mean challenges won’t come. The winds of life—uncertainties, difficulties, and unexpected trials—can easily stir up fear within us. Yet, these storms are not signs of God’s absence but opportunities to deepen our faith in His presence.

When fear gripped the disciples, they cried out to Jesus, who was with them in the boat. He calmed the storm with a command, reminding them of His power and faithfulness. In the same way, when we face storms as we cross into the new year, our response should not be fear but faith. Jesus is with us in every trial, ready to speak peace into our chaos if we will call on Him.

As you step into the new year, remember this: the storms may come, but Jesus is in your boat. Trust His word, respond in faith, and know that He will guide you safely to the other side. The journey may not always be smooth, but it is purposeful, and with Christ, you are never alone.
