Jericho was renowned as the most fortified city in Canaan, a symbol of seemingly insurmountable defence. Now, with the Israelites encamped nearby, the city was on high alert. The people of Jericho were terrified, knowing that Israelite spies had already infiltrated their city. Despite all these defensive measures, God spoke to Joshua with unwavering certainty. Using the past tense, He declared that Jericho had already been delivered into Israel’s hands. This declaration of victory before the battle had even begun is a powerful reminder of God’s sovereignty and faithfulness.
God’s perspective on our challenges is vastly different from ours. While we often see obstacles as overwhelming and insurmountable, God sees the victory He has already secured for us. In our human frailty, we focus on the strength of our enemies and the difficulties ahead. But God calls us to shift our focus from the challenges to His promises. He assures us that, just as Jericho was already given to Israel, our battles are also won through Him. This shift in perspective requires faith, a faith that believes in the fulfillment of God’s promises even before they manifest in our reality.
Living in the reality of God’s promised victory means walking by faith, not by sight. The Israelites had to march around Jericho for seven days before the walls came down. During this time, they had to trust in God’s promise despite seeing no immediate change. Similarly, we are called to live each day in the assurance of God’s promises. We must trust that He is at work, even when we don’t see immediate results. This faith-filled living involves a conscious decision to align our thoughts and actions with God’s truth, declaring victory over our circumstances in His name.
The challenges we face, no matter how formidable they appear, are already defeated from God’s perspective. He asks us to trust Him and act in faith, believing that His promises are true. By embracing this mindset, we can face our battles with confidence, knowing that God has already secured our victory. This doesn’t mean we won’t face difficulties, but it assures us that in the end, we will triumph because God is with us. Let us live each day in the reality of God’s promises, confidently moving forward in faith.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, Thank you for the assurance that my battles are already won through you. Help me to see my challenges from your perspective and to live each day in the reality of your promised victory. Strengthen my faith, so that I may walk by faith and not by sight, trusting in your promises even when I don’t see immediate results. Guide my thoughts and actions to align with your truth, and give me the confidence to declare victory over my circumstances in your name. Thank you for being with me and for securing my triumph.
