Pleasing the Father in All Things

Key Verse:
“And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.” – John 8:29 (KJV)

In John 8:28-29, Jesus speaks with clarity about His life’s mission: “I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.” Jesus was completely devoted to doing the will of the Father, and His constant desire was to please God in everything He did. Jesus’ ultimate focus was not on His own desires, but on seeking the will of the Father and fulfilling it perfectly.

For anyone who seeks to please the Father, the ruling question before taking any action should be: “Will this please the Father?” This question guided Joseph when Potiphar’s wife tried to seduce him. His response was a clear reflection of his heart for God: “How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” (Genesis 39:9b). Joseph’s concern was not for his own well-being but for how his actions would affect God’s heart.

This principle should guide every decision we make. Before we act, we should always ask, “What will give the Father the greatest pleasure in this situation?” Imagine you’re about to buy a new pair of shoes, but you know that a brother in need could benefit from your financial help. The immediate assumption might be that giving your money to the brother would please God more, but is that always the case?

You must seek God’s face and ask Him what He would have you do in every situation. God might indeed want you to bless that brother, but He could also want you to take care of your own needs first. Being led by the Spirit in these decisions is not about being religious or sanctimonious-it’s about truly discerning what God’s will is for each circumstance.

As you grow spiritually, it’s essential to rely on the Holy Spirit to help you discern God’s will, even in the small or seemingly mundane decisions of life. Jesus exemplified this truth when He said, “The Son can do nothing of himself, but what He seeth the Father do…” (John 5:19). Jesus’ exceptional results came from His perfect alignment with the will of the Father.

The Holy Spirit will guide you and confirm what pleases the Father in your spirit. When you follow His lead, heaven itself will back you up, and you will see the fruit of pleasing the Father in every area of your life.

Prayer:
Father, thank you for showing me the importance of pleasing you in every decision I make. I want to follow your will in all things, no matter how big or small. Help me to seek your guidance in every situation and to be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. May my life reflect your desires and bring you great pleasure. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
