Revive us oh Lord!

18 Then he became very thirsty; so he cried out to the Lord and said, “You have given this great deliverance by the hand of Your servant; and now shall I die of thirst and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised?” 19 So God split the hollow place that is in Lehi, and water came out, and he drank; and his spirit returned, and he revived. Therefore he called its name En Hakkore, which is in Lehi to this day. 20 And he judged Israel twenty years in the days of the Philistines.

Yesterday, we looked at how God’s Spirit backs up those who move in the purposes of God for their lives, like we saw with Samson. He did the impossible because God was with him, and we see that it is important that we walk according to the purposes of God for our lives. But, as Samson went about being filled with the Spirit of God and defeating the Philistines, at one point in chapter fifteen, he had killed a thousand men with a donkey’s jawbone. Now, he was tired and thirsty. What did he do?

Verse 18 shows us that Samson cried out to the Lord, pouring out his heart to God about his thirst and tiredness, and for a need for revival. This act from Samson shows us something very vital. That in our walk with God, there are times we need to call out to Him from some renewal or revival, as some may call it. This is very vital because, at a certain point, we may exhaust our strength and begin to decline. But Isaiah 40 says, “Those that wait upon the Lord will find their strength renewed.” This is a call for us to come to God for some renewal of strength from time to time. 

The reason for this is that it shows our constant need for help and strength from God. For He is the one who can help us. Throughout Psalms 119, the Psalmist shows us how we need revival by the Word of God. He kept crying for a revival, because today’s strength is not enough for what we will face tomorrow. Therefore, we must constantly cry for a renewal of strength like Samson, and like God did to him, He will also revive us. And in Samson’s case, God refreshed him both physically and spiritually. We need refreshing also from the Lord.

PRAYER

Holy Spirit, I come today, fill me afresh. Renew me, revive me and consume me until I am totally yielded to you for what lies ahead of me. I choose not to be satisfied with what I have of you now, because I know that there is more. Refresh me for what lies ahead of me.
