By the Spirit of God

6 And the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him, and he tore the lion apart as one would have torn apart a young goat, though he had nothing in his hand. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done. 19 Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon him mightily, and he went down to Ashkelon and killed thirty of their men, took their apparel, and gave the changes of clothing to those who had explained the riddle. So his anger was aroused, and he went back up to his father’s house.

Judges 14:6,19 (NKJV)

Yesterday, we saw how God occasioned a feeling in Samson, which was to lead him to the fulfillment of God’s purposes for him. He was drawn towards Philistine women, but the goal was that God was trying to occasion an avenue to defeat the Philistines, it was not about Samson marrying them. Samson had drawn his parents to follow him to Timnah to marry a woman he had seen, and this created an avenue for Samson to do the impossible.

First, on their way, he tore a lion apart with his hands, and secondly he killed thirty Philistines and took their clothes.  This was not normal, and yes the Scriptures tell us the Spirit of the LOrd came upon him to do these things. So, we can deduce from here that the Spirit of the Lord backs us up when we are working for the purposes of God. The Spirit of God is the one who works through us to bring forth the realities of the Word of God upon our lives.

These things were a pointer to the many other things he was going to do against the Philistines. But the medium through which he could carry all of that out is by the Spirit of God. Acts 1:8 tells us that we shall receive Power when the Holy Spirit comes upon us. And the next part says, we shall be witnesses. This tells us that the Spirit of God follows the direction of the purposes of God.

Therefore, we must always be reminded that the one who is backed by the Spirit of God is the one who walks in the purposes of God for his life. When you make God’s desires your desires, you will begin to see the manifestations of the Spirit of God in your life, because what you do is backed by the Lord.

PRAYER

HolySpirit, I surrender to you today, and I walk in the purposes of God for my life. Work through me to do the impossible and fulfill the purposes of God for my life. Fill me afresh as I journey through life as a witness of Christ Jesus, empowered to bring forth the will of God on earth as it is in Heaven.
