Imagine the scene: two million Israelites camped along the Jordan River, poised to enter the land God had promised them. The Canaanites were terrified. They had seen the vast number of Israelites and knew that their God was powerful. The river had been at flood stage, seemingly an impassable barrier, but it suddenly ceased flowing, and the Israelites crossed on dry ground. This miraculous event left the Canaanite kings paralyzed with fear, their hearts melted, and their courage vanished.
The idea of a “melted heart” signifies a complete loss of strength and resistance. The Canaanites were not just fearful; they were utterly demoralized. They had relied on the river as a natural defense, but when God intervenes, no barrier can stand against His people. The Israelites, on the other hand, were likely unaware of the extent of the terror God had already inflicted on their enemies. They were about to face battles, yet God had already paved the way for their victory.
God goes before us in our battles. Often, we approach our challenges with trepidation, unaware that God has already won the victory. The Israelites saw a mighty river, but God saw an already defeated enemy. We, too, need to see our battles through God’s eyes. When we face obstacles, we should remember that God has not called us to a fight He has not already secured victory for. Our task is to trust Him and step forward in faith.
As believers, we can take heart knowing that God is always at work, even when we cannot see it. Our enemies may seem powerful, but God is greater. He prepares the way for us, melting the hearts of those who oppose His plans. Let us face our battles with the confidence that comes from knowing we serve a victorious God. With this perspective, we can move forward with courage and strength, trusting in His power and provision.
Heavenly Father, thank you for the assurance that you go before me in every battle. Help me to see my challenges through your eyes, recognizing that you have already won the victory. Give me the courage to step forward in faith, trusting in your power and provision. Melt the hearts of any opposition I face and remind me that with you, no obstacle is insurmountable. Strengthen my faith and help me to walk confidently in the path you have set before me.
