When we celebrate Christmas, we often focus on the birth of Jesus, but the story of Christ does not begin in Bethlehem. The Gospel of John takes us beyond the manger to eternity past, unveiling the eternal glory of the Word who became flesh. From the beginning, Jesus was with God and was God. Through Him, all things were created, and in Him is life that shines as the light of men. Christmas is not just about His birth—it’s about the fullness of who He is.
John’s prologue draws our attention to the eternal majesty of Christ. He is the Word, the perfect expression of God’s nature and will. When He became flesh, His glory was revealed, not as a fleeting glimpse like Moses experienced, but in its fullness. In the life of Christ, we see God’s righteousness, mercy, and grace in action. Every word He spoke and every miracle He performed reflected the glory of the Father.
The incarnation is the ultimate display of God’s love and grace. Through Jesus, the invisible God became visible, dwelling among us to redeem and restore what sin had broken. The law, given through Moses, revealed God’s standards, but Jesus brought grace and truth in their fullness. He is the bridge between God and humanity, offering us reconciliation through His life, death, and resurrection. This is the glory of Christmas: that the eternal Word became flesh to dwell with us and save us.
As we celebrate the birth of Christ, let us remember that He is more than the baby in the manger. He is the eternal Word, the Creator, and the Light that overcomes the darkness. His glory is not confined to the nativity but is revealed in every aspect of His life and work. This Christmas, may we worship Him not only as the child born in Bethlehem but as the eternal Son of God who came to bring us life and light.
In light of His glory, we are called to declare Him to a world in need. Just as John the Baptist testified of Christ’s eternal nature and mission, we too must proclaim His greatness. May our lives and words reflect the wonder of His incarnation, inspiring others to see His glory and receive His grace.
Eternal Word, I stand in awe of your glory revealed in Jesus Christ. Thank you for stepping into time to save me, bringing grace and truth into a broken world. Help me to celebrate your fullness this Christmas, not just as a baby in a manger but as the eternal Creator and Savior. Fill my heart with worship and my mouth with praise, that I might faithfully declare your glory to others.
