The God Who Finishes What He Starts

“Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had explored the land, tore their clothes and said to the entire Israelite assembly, ‘The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good. If the Lord is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us.’” – Numbers 14:6-7 (NIV)

Have you ever faced a situation where the odds seemed stacked against you? It can feel overwhelming to look at the challenges ahead and focus on the obstacles instead of the possibilities. But what if we approached life with a different mindset—one that expects the best, no matter what the circumstances look like? This is exactly what Joshua and Caleb did when they stood out from the other spies who reported a negative view of the Promised Land. They saw the giants as challenges that could be overcome, not obstacles too big to defeat.

A story about two market researchers helps to illustrate this powerful mindset. Both were sent to an underdeveloped country to determine its market potential. One saw the lack of shoes as a dead end, but the other saw it as an opportunity. He focused on the fact that no one had shoes, which meant there was unlimited potential for growth. Their perspectives shaped the way they viewed their circumstances—and it made all the difference. Joshua and Caleb chose to see the land as a place of promise, trusting that God would provide the victory. They focused on God’s goodness, not on the giants standing in their way.

It’s easy to get bogged down by challenges and negative reports, but what would happen if we chose to focus on the potential? Life may be full of giants, but God is greater than any obstacle we face. When we approach every situation with faith, expecting the best and trusting that God is with us, we open ourselves up to the possibilities He has for us. Instead of seeing what can go wrong, we can choose to see what God can do.

Today, I encourage you to adopt a mindset of positive expectation. No matter what challenges you may face, trust that with God on your side, you can overcome anything. Choose to focus on His goodness and His promises, knowing that He is always faithful to lead you into the best things He has for you.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for reminding me to expect the best and trust in Your promises. Help me to see every challenge as an opportunity for You to work in my life. When faced with obstacles, help me focus on Your goodness and Your faithfulness. I know that with You, all things are possible. I choose today to break free from negative thinking and embrace a positive outlook, trusting that You will lead me into the best that You have planned. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
