In a world filled with competing priorities, how do we determine what matters most? Jesus provides the answer in Matthew 22:37-38. When asked about the greatest commandment, He didn’t hesitate: it’s to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind. This isn’t just a suggestion or an ideal—it’s the foundation of our faith and the lens through which every aspect of our lives should be viewed. But what does it mean to love God this way?
Loving God with all your heart means He is the central focus of your affections and desires. Take a moment to consider what occupies your heart most often. Is it your job, relationships, or personal goals? These are not bad things, but they should never eclipse your love for God. When your heart is fully devoted to Him, everything else falls into its rightful place. Loving God with all your soul goes even deeper—it’s about giving Him your very essence, trusting Him with your identity and eternal destiny.
And what about loving God with all your mind? This means intentionally directing your thoughts toward Him, allowing His Word to shape your worldview and decisions. In our digital age, distractions abound. Social media, news, and endless entertainment vie for our attention, often crowding out time for God. How can you create space in your mind to meditate on His truth? Perhaps it’s starting your day with Scripture or setting aside a few minutes for prayer amidst your busy schedule.
When we love God with our whole being, it changes everything. Our priorities shift, our relationships deepen, and our purpose becomes clearer. Loving God in this way isn’t about perfection; it’s about pursuit. It’s a daily decision to make Him first, even when life feels chaotic or overwhelming. Ask yourself: Is God truly my priority in every area of life? If not, what can I do today to realign my heart, soul, and mind toward Him?

Lord, teach me to love you with all my heart, soul, and mind. Help me to make you my priority in every area of my life. Show me how to pursue you daily and to live in a way that honors and reflects your love. Amen.
