“Then Moses climbed Mount Nebo from the plains of Moab to the top of Pisgah, across from Jericho. There the Lord showed him the whole land…” – Deuteronomy 34:1
Have you ever worked tirelessly toward a goal, only to realize you might not fully experience its benefits? Moses found himself in that very position. After decades of leading the Israelites, he stood on Mount Nebo, gazing at the Promised Land from a distance. Although he would not enter it, God allowed him to see the fulfillment of His promise. This moment reminds us that our faithfulness to God is never wasted, even when we don’t receive the reward in the way we imagined.
Moses’ view from Mount Nebo teaches us the importance of perseverance. Sometimes, our life journeys involve pouring ourselves into others, investing in ministries, or working toward dreams that may not fully materialize for us. Yet, just as Moses’ life of obedience was honored by God (even though he couldn’t set foot in Canaan), our service does not go unnoticed. God sees our faithfulness, and He often uses our efforts to bless future generations.
This story also challenges our perspective on success. The world measures success by tangible results—promotions, possessions, or public recognition. But Moses’ experience shows that God values faithfulness over outcomes. Moses had the privilege of an intimate relationship with the Lord, talking with Him “face to face” (Exodus 33:11), which far outweighed any earthly accolade. In our own lives, we can rest knowing that God judges us not by our worldly achievements, but by our wholehearted devotion.
Are you standing on your own “Mount Nebo,” wondering if all you’ve done matters? Take courage in knowing that your faithfulness contributes to a bigger story. God can use your obedience to pave the way for others, even if you don’t see all the results. He remains faithful and just, rewarding those who diligently seek Him. Keep pressing on in trust and obedience, confident that the One who calls you is faithful to complete the work He started.

Lord, thank you for Moses’ example of faithfulness, even when he didn’t fully receive what he had hoped for. Help me to persevere in the tasks you’ve given me, trusting that you see and honour my obedience. Give me the grace to keep my eyes on you rather than on earthly rewards. I commit to following your lead, knowing that your ways are higher and your plans are always for good. Amen.
