“I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink.” – Exodus 17:6
Have you ever felt so desperate for relief that you didn’t know where to turn? The Israelites understood this when they found themselves in the desert, thirsty and fearing they would die. With no natural water sources in sight, they cried out in frustration. Yet God, in His great mercy, provided a miraculous solution. He directed Moses to strike a rock, and out flowed life-sustaining water.
This incredible moment reminds us that God is fully aware of our needs—even when our circumstances seem impossible. In the midst of our own “deserts,” we can become consumed by panic or discouragement, wondering if God sees us. However, just as He provided for the Israelites, God stands ready to meet our deepest needs. It might not always be in the way we expect, but His faithfulness never fails.
Moreover, this passage underscores the importance of obedience. Moses did exactly as God commanded, and the result was abundant provision. Sometimes, our breakthrough comes when we stop relying on our own ideas and start following God’s instructions, even if they seem unusual or counterintuitive. His perspective is always bigger, and His solutions are always better than ours.
Are you facing a desert season right now? Take heart and remember how God brought water from a rock. He hasn’t changed—He is still the same faithful Lord who works miracles in everyday life. When you feel backed into a corner, lift up your eyes and trust that the One who quenched the Israelites’ thirst can bring refreshment to your soul as well.

Lord, thank you for your faithfulness in every situation. Help me to remember that you see my needs and are more than able to meet them, even when all hope seems lost. Teach me to listen and obey your guidance, trusting that you have a plan to bring me through the desert. I give you my fears and struggles, knowing you are the source of living water. Amen.
