The Sin of Moses: Learning from Leadership Mistakes

“Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank.” – Numbers 20:11

Despite God still providing water for the Israelites, Moses’ failure to follow the Lord’s command cost him the opportunity to enter the Promised Land.

However, Moses’ story does not end with defeat. Throughout Scripture, he remains an example of faithfulness and closeness to God. His mistake is a powerful reminder that God uses imperfect people—yet still calls us to full obedience. If you’ve ever stumbled or led others astray, take heart. God’s grace is sufficient to restore and teach us, shaping us into more humble, God-reliant leaders.
