The Priestly Prayer 4: And Give You Peace

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.

Numbers 6:24-25

Today, we will be discussing the final part of the priestly prayer series that we’ve been exploring in the last four days. The final part of this blessing says, “And give you peace,” 

The Hebrew word for peace used here is “shalom,” which encompasses far more than just the absence of conflict or turmoil. Shalom represents a state of wholeness, goodness, and total satisfaction in life—a deep inner tranquility that comes from being in the right relationship with God.

The Apostle Paul described this peace as “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding” (Philippians 4:7). It is a peace that cannot be fully comprehended or explained by human reasoning, but it is experienced when we place our trust in God and surrender our anxieties to Him in prayer.

The truth is that our world is filled with uncertainty, stress, and turmoil, but the peace of God offers a refuge and a source of strength for our souls. It is a peace that transcends our circumstances and surpasses our understanding, anchoring us in the unchanging goodness and faithfulness of God.

To receive the peace of God, we must learn to cast our cares upon the God of peace in prayer, trusting in His sovereignty and His promises. Instead of being consumed by anxiety and worry, we are called to present our requests to God with thanksgiving, knowing that He hears our prayers and cares for us deeply.

As we cultivate a lifestyle of prayerful dependence on God, His peace fills our hearts and minds, guarding us against fear, doubt, and despair. It enables us to face the challenges of life with courage and confidence, knowing that we are held secure in the loving embrace of the prince of peace himself.

Therefore, if there’s anything to seek desperately, it is the peace of God that surpasses all understanding. Surrender your anxieties and fears to Him in prayer, trusting in His goodness and His faithfulness to provide for all your needs. May His peace reign in your heart and mind, bringing wholeness, contentment, and joy to your life each day.
