The Weapon of our Warfare

A man of God that I respected a lot once shared an exciting experience. He got back from a ministration and just became unnecessarily touchy and angry. He started yelling at everybody at home and talking rudely; complaining about everything and everyone. In all of these, the wife remained quiet. After a while, he went to meet the woman in the kitchen to continue yelling about his late food but the woman looked at him so sternly and suddenly she screamed: “Come out of him in Jesus name!”

He was puzzled for a minute and then burst into laughter for a very long time. Then he asked the wife, are you seriously casting out a demon from me, a whole pastor? The woman replied “No, I don’t believe you are possessed by a demon, however, I know that the man who has been yelling and nagging around for the past 30 minutes is not my husband, I’m only rebuking that spirit that is making it appear so”

Many years after the incidence, the man of God confessed “I honestly don’t know what came over me that day but surely something was wrong and I wasn’t just in control. Thankfully, my wife understood that I’m not the enemy and that her fight is not against flesh and blood”.

Indeed, Paul was right in saying that “…we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” Ephesians 6:12.

In light of that Paul also admonished us that since our warfare is not carnal, the weapons that we fight with cannot be carnal too. In 1 Corinthians 10:4-5 he said that “The weapons of our warfare are not the weapons of the world. Instead, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We tear down arguments and every presumption set up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.…”

So, my friends, it’s time to wake up, stop fighting shadows and face the real enemy. The enemy is not your boss who is trying to make life unbearable for you at work or stop your promotion, he’s just a tool. The enemy is not your nagging wife or disobedient and wayward child. The enemy is not the uncle that took advantage of you; not your best friend that betrayed you. The real enemy is the devil and all those people are mere tools. You don’t stop a man from writing by taking away his pen, he may stop for a while but be sure he’s coming back with another pen’

The devil wants to enthrone in your heart ‘imaginations that sets up itself against the knowledge of God. He wants to attack your mind and thoughts while he distracts you with being busy chasing shadows. While you’re busy hating your boss, wife, friend and others, the devil is happy to have you locked down in unforgiveness and hatred. You’re hurting badly! You thought those people you’re keeping malice with are the victims but you’re the real victim who is trapped in the enemy’s net and you can’t even see it.

So, get up this today ‘take every thought captive and make them obedient to Christ’ set yourself free with the weapon of prayer and the word of God. It will produce peace in your heart that is beyond understanding.
