One of the struggles many believers face in their emotional walk with God is misunderstanding the distinction between unconditional love and conditional reward. These are two different phases in our Christian journey that we must grasp if we are to have a healthy understanding of God’s dealings with us.
God loves us equally, but He does not always bless us equally. This distinction can sometimes lead to confusion or frustration.
Some believers, seeing others move from the phase of unconditional love into the phase of conditional reward, might wrongly think that God is being unfair. They may question why some seem to receive more blessings than others, and this can stir up emotions of doubt and discontent.
But it’s important to remember that God is just, not just fair. Fairness implies equal treatment in every situation, while justice is based on what is right according to God’s perfect will. If God has already given His only begotten Son to die for us, why would we doubt His ability to provide us with other needs, whether it’s a spouse, a home, or a car? When we question God’s goodness, we reveal a misunderstanding of His love.
God’s love for us is unconditional. He loved us so much that He came down from heaven, became a man, and died on the cross-without sin, without fault-simply because He loved us. There is no need we can have that comes close to the sacrifice God already made for us. His love is the greatest gift we could ever receive.
Romans 8:33 reminds us that only God has the right to bring a charge against us, but instead of condemning us, He justifies us because of His great love. And even now, Christ is interceding for us, standing in the gap and ensuring that we are not condemned but justified before the Father. This is the depth of God’s love for us.
Prayer:
Father, thank you for your unconditional love. I acknowledge that you have already given me the greatest gift by sending your Son to die for me. Help me to understand that your love is not based on my performance, and that your rewards come from your justice and goodness, not mere fairness. Strengthen my faith and trust in your perfect plan for my life. I am grateful for your love, and I rest in your provision. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
