Now the firstborn said to the younger, ‘Our father is old, and there is no man on the earth to come in to us as is the custom of all the earth. Humans are created for connection. From the beginning, God designed us to live in community and not in isolation. Yet, sometimes, the fear of being alone can drive us to make desperate choices. Lot’s daughters felt trapped in a cave, cut off from the world, and convinced that there was no future for them. In their panic, they settled for what was available instead of waiting for what was divine. Fear and desperation blinded them to the truth that God was still in control, even after the chaos of Sodom’s destruction.
It is easy to judge them, but many of us fall into the same trap. We compromise because it feels like time is running out. We settle for the wrong person, the wrong job, or the wrong decision simply because we are afraid that nothing better will come. But fear-driven choices never lead to God’s best. They only create regret and delay the fulfillment of His plan. The same God who gave Abraham and Sarah a child in old age, who brought Ruth from widowhood to marriage, and who raised Joseph from prison to power, still holds time and destiny in His hands.
When fear whispers that it is too late, faith reminds you that God is never late. His timing is perfect, and His plans are worth waiting for. What He has prepared for you will not pass you by. Desperation makes people settle, but faith teaches us to trust that God’s promise is still on the way.
Prayer:
Father, help me to wait for your perfect timing and to trust that you are working all things together for my good. Deliver me from the fear of missing out and from the temptation to settle for less than your best. Teach me to rest in your promises and to believe that what you have prepared for me will come at the right time. In Jesus’ name, amen.
