“Then the magicians said to Pharaoh, ‘This is the finger of God.’ But Pharaoh’s heart grew hard, and he did not heed them, just as the Lord had said.” – Exodus 8:19 (NKJV)
When the plagues fell on Egypt, Pharaoh’s magicians tried their best to copy God’s wonders. For a while, they succeeded in imitating some of the signs. But when the plague of gnats came, even they had to admit defeat: “This is the finger of God.” In that moment, God’s power was undeniable. The magicians-trained experts in deception and manipulation-could no longer explain away what was happening. It was clear: only the living God could do this.
In our lives too, there are moments when God shows up in ways that cannot be denied. A breakthrough comes when all hope seemed lost. A healing occurs that no doctor can explain. A door opens that no amount of networking could have achieved. Even skeptics, like Pharaoh’s magicians, are sometimes forced to acknowledge, “This is the finger of God.” His power shines brightest when human strength and wisdom reach their limits.
Yet notice Pharaoh’s response: even though the truth was right in front of him, his heart remained hard. That’s a warning for us. It’s possible to witness God’s power and still refuse to surrender. How often do we explain away His goodness as coincidence, luck, or our own effort? True faith doesn’t just recognize God’s hand-it responds with humility, worship, and obedience.
So the next time you see evidence of God’s hand in your life, don’t ignore it. Acknowledge it, give thanks, and let it strengthen your faith. And if you’re waiting for that undeniable moment, take heart-God is still at work behind the scenes. When He moves, it will be clear, and all will know: “This is the finger of God.”

Father, thank You that Your power is undeniable. Open my eyes to recognize Your hand at work in my life. Guard me from pride that resists You, and give me a humble heart that responds with worship and obedience whenever I see Your fingerprints. In Jesus’ name, amen.
