April 14: Faith That Protects What God Gave You

By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.” — Hebrews 11:23 (NKJV)

Faith doesn’t always look like parting the red sea or calling down fire from heaven.Sometimes faith looks like a mother hiding her baby in the dark.

Amram and Jochebed did not perform miracles. They did not part seas or pull down fire from heaven. They did something quieter and, in its own way, just as brave: they looked at what God had placed in their hands, recognised its value, and refused to surrender it to a system that wanted to destroy it. They were not afraid of the king’s edict. In a climate of state-sponsored infanticide, where the most powerful ruler on earth had issued a decree that should have terrified every Hebrew parent, this couple chose faith over fear.

The text says they saw he was a beautiful child. That phrase carries more weight than it might appear to. The word beautiful in the original language can also suggest that they perceived something divinely significant about Moses, that they saw not just a baby but a destiny, not just a child but a calling. Faith gave them eyes to see what the ordinary eye would have missed, and what they saw was worth protecting at the cost of their own lives.

There are things God has placed in your hands that the world, or the enemy, or the pressure of a difficult season wants you to surrender. A calling that seems too fragile to survive the current climate. A child whose destiny is under attack. A vision that has been threatened by the edicts of discouragement, failure, or other people’s opinions. Faith says: I see what this is. I know whose it is. And I am not giving it up.

You do not need a dramatic confrontation with every force that threatens what God has given you. Sometimes you just need to hide it carefully, tend to it faithfully, and trust that God who put it in your hands knows how to protect what He placed there.

Today, name the thing God has given you that feels most under threat right now. Pray over it specifically. Do not surrender it to the noise around you. You are Jochebed. You see the beauty of what God put in your arms. Hold on to it.

Prayer

Father, give me eyes to see the value of what you have placed in my hands. In seasons when the world or the enemy tries to convince me to let go of what you gave me, remind me of Jochebed. She was not afraid of the king’s edict, and I choose not to be afraid of mine. I will protect what you have entrusted to me. I will tend it, hide it if necessary, and trust you with the outcome. What you put in my hands, you can sustain. In Jesus’ name, amen.
