God’s battle plan will rarely make sense to the military mind.
March around the city once a day for six days. On the seventh day, march around seven times. Then blow the trumpets and shout. That was the entire strategy. No siege equipment. No attack formation. No undermining of the foundations or scaling of the walls. Just marching and silence and then, on the appointed day, a shout. By every known principle of ancient warfare, the plan was absurd.
And yet the walls fell.
The strategy was not designed to be militarily logical. It was designed to be spiritually obedient. God was not asking Israel to figure out the best way to take Jericho. He was asking Israel to trust that His way was the best way, even when His way looked like a walking exercise. The test was not their military intelligence. It was their willingness to follow an instruction that made them look, from the outside, a little foolish.
There is a particular kind of faith required to follow God’s strategy when you cannot explain it to anyone watching. When God tells you to give when you are in debt, to forgive when retaliation seems justified, to be still when every instinct says act, to speak when silence would be safer. These are not irrational instructions. They are divine strategies that operate according to a logic the natural mind cannot fully access.
The walls fell on the seventh day, not the first. Six days of marching produced no visible result. Six days of doing what God said with nothing to show for it. Day seven was the breakthrough, but it was only reached because days one through six were faithfully completed. Whatever strange instruction God has given you that you have been second-guessing, complete the circuit. Keep marching. The walls are coming down on the day God has appointed, not a day before, and not a day after.
Prayer
Father, forgive me for the times I have abandoned your strategy because it looked foolish to the people watching. I want to be someone who trusts your instructions over my own logic. Show me where I have stopped marching because the walls were not falling fast enough. Renew my obedience today. I will follow your plan, even when it looks absurd from the outside, because I have seen what happens when your people simply do what you say. In Jesus’ name, amen.
