Meditate On It Day And Night

Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

Joshua 1:8

What are we supposed to do with our bible? I know your first response is ‘read it’ and that’s not wrong but there is more that we can do with our bible. In today’s verse, God gives Joshua a powerful blueprint for achieving success in his life and ministry and they are all based on God’s word. This is because divine courage and success are deeply rooted in our relationship with God’s word. Here are three specific actions God outlined for Joshua to take concerning the bible:

First, Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips: God instructs Joshua to continually speak His word. Confessing God’s promises and truths out loud helps to reinforce our faith and keep God’s word at the forefront of our minds.

Second, Meditate on it day and night: Beyond merely speaking the word, Joshua is to deeply contemplate it. Meditation allows the word to move from our lips to our hearts. It involves pondering, reflecting, and letting the truths of scripture saturate our innermost being.

Third, Be careful to do everything written in it: Finally, God calls Joshua to obedient action. It’s not enough to speak and meditate on the word; we must also live it out. Obedience to God’s commands is a vital component of our faith journey.

By engaging in these three practices, Joshua is promised prosperity and success. This principle extends to us as well. When we confess God’s word, meditate on it continuously, and carefully obey it, we align ourselves with God’s will and position ourselves for His blessings.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I thank you for the gift of your word and the guidance it provides. Help me to keep your word always on my lips, confessing your promises and truths daily. Teach me to meditate on your word day and night, allowing it to permeate my heart and mind. Give me the strength and discipline to be careful to do everything written in it. As I align my life with your word, I trust that you will bring prosperity and success in accordance with your will. Thank you for your faithfulness and for the power of your word in my life.
