Moving from Natural Ability to Divine Dependence

Key Verse:
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” – Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV)

You might possess natural beauty, talents, or abilities that make it easy for you to get attention or accomplish things in your own strength, but when you come under the anointing of God, those things cannot be used to fulfill His purpose for your life. Even though your natural beauty may still remain, God will not use it to carry out His divine work unless you make a deliberate choice to move from depending on your natural attributes to depending entirely on God.

The time it takes you to make that switch from relying on your own strengths to trusting in God’s anointing is the time it will take before God can use you in a mighty way. In many ways, this is true for all of us-whether we rely on our looks, intellect, skills, or resources. Natural abilities and talents, while useful in the world, cannot carry the weight of God’s glory and power.

Consider the example of David when he was preparing to face Goliath. King Saul offered him his own armor, a traditional piece of battle equipment, but David realized that he couldn’t walk in it. He wasn’t used to it, and it wasn’t what he needed to fight the giant. David understood that he didn’t need natural equipment or armor to defeat Goliath-he needed God’s divine strength and equipment (1 Samuel 17:38-39).

Similarly, in today’s world, many of us bring natural equipment or human wisdom to God’s work, but God is looking for divine equipment that can only come through His anointing. There are very few divine activities in churches today because many try to do God’s work in their own strength-whether it’s relying on talents, positions, or external resources.

There’s also a trap on the opposite side. Some people may feel that because they don’t have a particular natural ability, God can’t use them. But this mindset is equally wrong. God does not operate based on what you have or don’t have. He is not concerned with your natural abilities to boast about or your perceived inadequacies. What matters to God is what He wants to give you-the anointing, the divine equipment, and the empowerment to do His will.

As you mature in your relationship with God, you will move from being a child who depends on their own strength to a son who understands that everything you need to fulfill God’s call on your life comes from Him. This is the level where God can truly use you.

Prayer:
Father, thank you for the unique abilities you’ve given me. I recognize that my natural strengths are not enough to fulfill your divine calling on my life. I choose today to rely completely on you, moving beyond my own abilities and trusting in your anointing to empower me. Help me to walk in the divine equipment you’ve prepared for me and to depend fully on you for everything I need to fulfill your will. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
