Standing Firm in Faith, Not Discouragement

Have you ever noticed how opposition intensifies when you’re making progress in the work God has given you? This was Nehemiah’s experience when Sanballat heard that the Jews were rebuilding the wall. He became furious and tried to discourage them from continuing. Sanballat’s anger wasn’t just because of the construction; it was because he had no real authority to stop the work. Nehemiah had the king’s approval, and this legal protection gave the workers the freedom to press on despite external threats.

The same is true for us today. As believers, we have been set free and given legal protection through Christ, our King. Satan, like Sanballat, cannot take away our freedom in Christ, but he can try to discourage us from walking in that freedom. Discouragement changes everything—it affects the way we pray, the way we work, and even the way we see God’s promises. When we live under faith, we approach everything with a sense of purpose and confidence. But when we live under discouragement, everything feels heavy, burdensome, and impossible.

Nehemiah and the workers pressed on despite the ridicule because they knew that no earthly power could stop what God had started. This is a powerful reminder for us: the enemy has no real authority over the work God is doing in and through our lives. Discouragement is his greatest weapon, but we combat it with faith. Hebrews 10:38-39 tells us that “the just shall live by faith,” and God takes no pleasure in those who draw back. We must be those who press forward in faith, believing that God will bring His work to completion.

So, when you face discouragement or ridicule in your journey, remember Nehemiah’s boldness and unwavering faith. Just as he knew the authority behind his mission, you can rest in the fact that you are legally set free by Christ. Don’t let the enemy’s attempts to discourage you succeed. God’s work in your life will continue as you stand firm in faith.
