Worry is like a rocking chair—it keeps you busy, but it doesn’t get you anywhere. How many times have you spent precious moments of today fretting about the uncertainties of tomorrow? Worry, fear, and dread are master thieves; they rob us of peace, drain our energy, and leave us feeling stuck. Jesus, in His wisdom, reminds us in Matthew 6:34 not to let the weight of tomorrow overshadow the gift of today.
God has equipped us with grace for each moment, but when we try to borrow tomorrow’s troubles, we end up feeling overwhelmed. Think about it: has worrying ever solved a single problem? No, it hasn’t. God doesn’t call us to live in the “what ifs” or the “maybes.” Instead, He calls us to trust Him completely, knowing that He is already in our tomorrows, working everything out for our good (Romans 8:28).
When we worry, we’re essentially telling God that we don’t trust Him to handle what’s ahead. But the truth is, God’s plans for us are always better than anything we could imagine. Instead of letting worry consume us, we can lean into the Holy Spirit’s power to resist those anxious thoughts. When we fully surrender our concerns to God, we experience the peace that surpasses all understanding—a peace that anchors us in the here and now.
So today, let’s choose trust over worry. Focus on the tasks, joys, and challenges of this day, and leave tomorrow in God’s capable hands. Remember, He’s the same God who provided for you yesterday, is with you today, and will faithfully guide you tomorrow.
Prayer:
Father, I admit that I often let worry and fear steal my peace. Thank you for reminding me that you are in control and that I can trust you with my tomorrows. Help me to focus on today and to resist the urge to anticipate problems that may never happen. Strengthen me through your Holy Spirit, and fill my heart with your peace. I choose to surrender every anxious thought to you, knowing that you care for me and will guide me every step of the way. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
